More about the Items
and David Winter
 |
Each cottage was hand made and
hand painted in England. They were carefully hand painted by
individuals who were a part of David Winter's workshops and
studios. This is why each cottage is painted a bit
differently, and why some are painted quite differently. Some
painters simply took more liberty in diverting from designated
colors. It was a true "cottage industry". | |
 |
The dates above each cottage,
plate, or ornament set, indicate the issue date or production date
and the retirement date (the date the cottage was taken out of
production). If there is only one date, that means it was the only year
or the only month or months the item was in production.

 |
Cottages were distributed by
John Hine Studios Ltd. until 1996. John Hine was a friend of
David Winter and took on the job of promoting and distributing David
Winter's creations up until 1996. During 1996 to 1997, John
Hine Studios Ltd. assigned distribution of David Winter cottages to
Enesco,
but all David Winter items were still made in England and
designed by David Winter. Cottages distributed by Enesco
during 1996 and 1997 have this information indicated above each
cottage.

Each "Country
Cottage" magazine was published in England. They are
being sold in sets of 4 that represent quarterly issues for 1991 and
through 1995. There is only one set per year available.
Magazines were originally issued to Guild members only. Even
though we have just one example of a magazine shown on the web site,
each magazine has a different front cover and different
contents. They are fascinating reading and include information
about David Winter himself, his sculptures and their production,
stories behind the subjects he chose to sculpt, and occasional
folklore of the British region, etc. Each
set of magazines has been carefully stored and all magazines are in
excellent condition. |
 |
Sets of ornaments and
porcelain plates were designed by David Winter, but commissioned in
other countries depending on what company was selected for
production by John Hine and David Winter. This information is
indicated above each item or set.
|
 |
All of the David Winter
cottages, ornaments, magazines, and plates were stored in their
boxes in a humidity free and smoke free environment, and were only
removed from their boxes for meticulous inspection and
photography. |
 |
Only 3 cottages were purchased
via the secondary market and include House on Top, House of Master
Mason, and Robin Hood's Hideaway. Since these 3 cottages may
have been displayed by their previous owner at some point in time,
we can not say that they are in "pristine" condition, but
we can say that they are in excellent condition and have been
painstakingly inspected. All
other cottages, ornaments, and plates were never on display and are
in "original and pristine" condition. |
 |
None of the cottages, plates,
or ornaments have chips, cracks, repairs, mold or damage due to
humidity or water exposure, or fading due to light exposure.
|
 |
All items are clean and will
come to you in their original box with original certificates of
authenticity and original labels intact. |
 |
Cottages that indicate a
signature by the artist were personally hand signed by David Winter
on the felt bottom of the cottage.
|
 |
Most of the cottages will come
in their original packing, but in some cases the bubble wrap was
simply old and replaced with new bubble wrap for shipping
purposes. Boxes are in good to
excellent condition, mostly excellent.
If you want to know the exact condition of a box that is associated
with a particular cottage, just email or call the toll-free phone
and I will give you an exact description.
